The Real Post: Gypsy Dreams of Horses

Look at this beauty! He is British Sterling, a 9 year old Gypsy Vanner stallion imported from Kent to Minnesota. All photos come from the Lake Ridge Gypsy farm website.


I had no idea there was a Gypsy Vanner breed. It is relatively new, and this stallion is a prime exemplar. The phrase "effing gorgeous" comes to mind. Originating among the Romany of the UK & Ireland, the breed is a blend of the Shire, Clydesdale, Friesian, and Dales Pony. Bred, of course, to pull vardoes, the breed remains a Romany symbol of power & strength.

    My goodness, whoever started to call beautiful stallions had to have seen this superb animal. What a hunk! You are right, he DOES model. Great post, my darling. I've learned something: Gypsy horses can do shampoo commercials better than most women! lol

    He's beautiful, but I can't help wondering if every time he swings his head he thinks, "Woah! I can see again! Ah! I'm BLIND! Wait, no... my vision's back!" It would be like living with a constant strobe light. :P

    Oh my! But he is truly gorgeous! One of the things that I have always heard about Gypsies is that they are excellent horse breeders. Looking at this magnificent male, I can see it is true!

    Thanks, all. The funny thing is, bout 4th grade or so, I habitually drew horses just like this. Really long flowing manes and tails, sturdy bodies. I've also always been partial to piebalds or what we Muricans call pintos.
