The Real Practical Magic Blog Party Post: with Give-Away!
"Of all the Owens women, Jet Owens was the most beautiful, and she never even noticed. She preferred cats to human beings and turned down every offer from the men who fell in love with her. The only one she ever cared for was that boy who was hit by lightning when he and his brother went tearing off across the town green to prove how brave and daring they were. Sometimes, late at night, Jet and Frances both hear the sound of those boys laughing as they run through the rain, then stumble into the darkness. Their voices are still young and filled with expectation, exactly as they sounded at the moment they were struck down."
The give-away: 15 milliliters of Aunt Jet's Lavender Oil! This is my mix of several types of lavender essential oil, sweet almond oil, and food-grade lavender blossoms. Wear it as perfume, anoint cuts with it for better healing, dress candles for love and protection with it. Or come up with your own practical & magical use!
To enter the give-away, leave me a comment telling which PM quote I have posted was/is your favorite: Gillian broke hearts, The aunts tell you to look, What to do in August, or Aunt Jet the Beautiful.
I'll select the winner on October 1st! I have visited a few lovely posts, and I'm looking forward to wending my way through many more. I hope you always remember to plant roses & lavender for luck. And fall in love whenever you can.

What a great party, I love all of the posts. But my favorite quote was 'What to do in August'. Although, like Jet, I often prefer the company of my cats to most humans too. ;)

My favorite quote or bit of one of the quotes you posted is this: "Make certain never to step on one of the crickets that may have taken refuge in a dark corner of your living room, or your luck will change for the worse." I like it because it takes me back to the part in the movie were Sally half-destroys the house trying to avoid the curse. I cried with her...
ReplyDeleteHello, I am visiting form the Practical Magic Blog party. :D I like all of your posts building-up to the main event! Thanks for hosting such a generous giveaway! My favorite quote is the one about August. There seems to be lots of wisdom in that one!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quote is "Gillian Broke Hearts." She is my favorite character because she embraces life and has fun with it (albeit, too much fun sometimes). I remember in the movie one of my favorite parts is how Gillian dresses: like a fairy when she is a little girl, and kind of flowy and relaxed when she is grown up and with Sally and her girls. her morals are definitely looser than mine, but the biggest thing about her for me is the relationship she has with her sister. it doesn't matter what guy she is with or has to deal with, Gillian never forgets her sister. Never stops loving her.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite quote was the one about Aunt Jet, hearing about those boys running through the rain before being struck by lighting was quite touching. In fact, if I hadn't already decided that I should read the book, that would have made my mind up
ReplyDeleteLove how you used the book and quotes! I just reda it for the 1st time and loved it! I love the August quote...but also love the one about Aunt Jet too...

ReplyDeletePS: I did read Alice Hoffman's The Red Garden but was disappointed with it. However, soon after, I read Blackbird House which is now my all time favorite novel of hers! (Followed by Practical Magic & Here On Earth).
Fav quote: What to do in August... it is a very tricky month! So looking forward to Fall...
