Bloody April: The Circus is Closed because the Clown has a Bloody Nose

Yes, it's day one of my menstrual cycle! The colorful colloquialism in the title came from the Museum of Menstruation's list of the many many phrases used to refer to one's period. I happen to like the clown one, although most others don't appeal. My circus only stays closed for the first day. After that, all is ready to rumble. :)

I am blessed because I have little PMS trouble. I get a bit more tired & grouchy than normal for 2 days prior to my period. On Day 1, I try to get some extra rest, and I eat whatever I want. (Actually, this is what I always do, but since I LIKE veg, tofu & whatnot, it works :). However, during period time, I crave chocolate, avocados, french fries & sweet potato fries. Oh, yum. Today is sweet potato fry day.

I try not to make any major decisions on Day 1, because I usually feel just a bit foggy. Obviously, I can't skip work or other obligations on Day 1, but I attempt to make my life as easy as possible. What is/was your pattern for Day 1?

  1. My ex husband used to tell me that i had one good week out of the month. The truth is,I am a miserable bitch for PMS week, wierd during ovulation, and a sloth during my period. But I accept it, and deal with it.

  2. Just wait for perimenopause. It's like going through puberty backwards! Not fun at all.

  3. The first day of my period I kinda lounge around. Then I hit this euphoria phase by day 2 and I love everybody and make all kinds of "plans" and dates and such. Ovulation turns me into a raging asshole, and from then on I'm basically a BOW (Bitch on Wheels). I'm like RetroKali, I basically have one good week a month.

  5. The first day, I get woozy. I usually have to take supplements and it's great if I can have a lie-down.. the next couple of days, I get a bit unreasonable, though I give my loved ones full right to tell me I'm being unreasonable. Before I went on the pill, my periods would last ten exhausting days, but on the pill it's 3.

  6. I'm not sure how I'm going to be this month . . . it will be my first cycle with my IUD (ParaGuard). According to my doctor, I may experience more cramping than normal. If this is true, I'm not really looking forward to it as my cramps were already unbearable during the first two days of my period.

I'm expecting the red explosion any day now, so we'll have to see how it goes. :/

  7. My periods drain the hell out of me. I do not get PMS overly bad, and the day before I start I am usually dragging my husband to the bedroom for some last minute hormone induced fun time, but then, when I start, my periods last anywhere from 5 to 13 days and I turn into a zombie. My energy levels flatline, and the longer I bleed, the more irritated and yucky I feel. I am lucky in the respect that I do not cramp much, and little PMS, I just bleed for ever it seems lol.
