Dark Winter, Dark Magic Post #1

The Wizardess has joined the Dark Winter, Dark Magic Blog Party, dreamed up by The Domestic Pagan. The winter is the time to sip tea & mine your spell-books for overlooked gems. My focus will be The Element Encyclopedia of 5000 Spells by Judika Illes. Why, you say? Judika isn't particularly into the dark side. True! But she explains the history and need for hexes & spells of manipulation & domination in a most lucid way. A quote of a quote from the Encyclopedia: "Magic is an individual action, undertaken because the cosmos is not believed to be benevolent by nature, or, at least, not benevolent enough to that person."  I find the darker side fascinating to research, even though I've tried few actual workings.

So, here goes: A simple & easy domination spell to try from the 5000 Spells...
Putty in My Hands
1. Write your target's name, identifying info, & your desires on Silly Putty or Plasticine.
2. Play with it: roll it into a ball, stretch it, bounce it. When the spell feels complete, toss the ball into a body of water.
3. The target should become putty in your hands.

In the Encyclopedia, there are sections including Death, Ghosts, Necromancy & Vampires, Spells of Domination, Hexes & their Antidotes, and The Evil Eye. What sorts of spells would you like to hear about? What would you like to try, or what do you need? Do tell, and I will search for you throughout the Dark Winter, Dark Magic Blog Party!

  2. It is huge, fun, well-written, and just a treasure trove of wonderful stuff. My next purchase will be her Encyclopedia of Spirits. This one is available at my local library!

  3. How scarily delicious! I would like to hear about "white" magic with dark ends. Like when someone wishes for rain, which is not a bad thing, but the fact that they are doing it because they know someone they dislike has a leaky roof complicates things.

I'm going to check out the party, and enter it there is still time.

    Bright 2011 wishes!

  4. Magaly, I'm sure you can still sign up. Her rules are simple, and you only have to do one post if that's all you want.
